My second favorite silhouette is slimmer than the one I showed last week. Some days I favor a curvier look made possible with a pencil skirt and a cinched waist.
I have hips, thighs, and a butt — they are no secret. And it boggles my mind that women’s magazines almost always recommend that pear-shaped ladies hide their lower half in loose fitting skirts.
I am careful to make sure the pencil skirt isn’t too tight and that my waist is defined. But hiding the lower part of my body under a tent is silly. A skirt that hugs it gently can be professional and a little sexy at the same time. It’s all based on balance and proportion. Tighter on the lower half and a little looser fit or more conservatively covered on top.
I wore this outfit last Friday, and it consists of a chunky green sweater from Eddie Bauer, the Warwick Belt by Shelter Protects You (quickly becoming one of my favorite accessories), a pencil skirt from LOFT, a black pair of Calvin Klein matte ultra sheer-control top nylons (15 denier), and Nine West pumps.
I really wish Nine West still made these pumps. They are incredibly comfortable, and I love their ultra-pointy toe. There’s something a little witchy looking about them. I hope Nine West bring them back because I’ll buy five pairs in order to have multiple pairs stored up.
